Today’s post is going to start off with a reader’s email. I love getting email from my readers about post suggestions and recently this one came in from Launa Sanders- who gave me permission to repost it. Mike- I am a weekly subscriber to your post and would like to request a topic: Integration. I personally am a true #buttonclickadmin with zero developer knowledge and yet have been tasked with coordinating efforts to intergate several of our back-end systems. While I am working with each business unit who is the “expert” of the system, we as an org have absolutely zero experience integrating systems with Salesforce.com. I am hoping to get insight into your experience with integration. While I know every integration is different, my assumption is that up-front there are some questions that I need to ask in order to get off on the right foot (and hopefully come

Monday AM Admin: Pop Culture Training

I spent some time going back through older posts looking to see if I could find gaps in what I have been writing about. As soon as I took one look at the tag cloud I realized it was training. Perhaps it’s a metaphor for how Admins think, or maybe it’s because training could be the least sexy topic to talk about. I mean, I would much rather talk about Chatter, Cross-object workflow rules, or a host of other topics. But let’s face it, without proper training of our users all we will really be doing is chasing fires and being frustrated. So let’s talk training, but let’s look at it from a user standpoint and see how we can spice it up a bit so it’s less Ben Stein-ish and more School of Rock-ish! Below are my 5 tips to put a little zing into your training class when

I’m kicking off this post with quite possibly the best summer song ever made. You can disagree, but you need to post a link in comments to a better summer song. In the mean time, enjoy the laid back tones of Mungo Jerry before continuing on with this post. Ah, that song set’s me right every time. Alright let’s talk some Summer ’12 Salesforce release info. First, off it’s preliminary at this point. The notes that Matt Lamb has shared on twitter still have the Spring’12 logo them. (This is the version I found.) So to be fair, this won’t be an exhaustive post- I’ll give them a chance to release the “official” notes. But being a blogger, I can’t help but salivate over new stuff. So let’s see what we could be in store for- Safe Harbor of course. 1. Chatter Messanger goes GA (p.21) Finally, we have the

Monday AM Admin: What I did wrong

Depending on how busy my weekend is I like to catch up on sports and watch a few games. But this last weekend I noticed a trend in the sporting events I watched- they dwelled on the wrong. I watched part of a race on tv and there was no less than 15 instant replays of a single wreck. The announcers dissected it from every angle to the exact moment that something went wrong. “There, it was right there that it went wrong.” Said one of the announcers. Boy, he must be proud of himself. He identified the moment that someone screwed up. So I changed the channel, but all the rest of the games where the same- we dissect the moment for the wrong. I’m concerned we are focusing on the moment we go wrong. I want to you to look back at a business process you implemented, maybe
